Internet and the World of Matchmaking

It is safe to say that the internet has taken hold of a large part of our lives, enough for us to use its services to find almost everything, even love. Especially love! The funny thing is, despite the fact that everyone experiences and finds love differently, the new-age Indian is quite open to finding matches through the many Indian matrimonial websites that offer such services, ensuring all socio-economic, demographic and personal requirements are met.

We can see for ourselves how the Internet has revolutionized matchmaking services, having greatly increased the overall advantages. Yes, some of us still prefer to advertise by way of newspapers, but it’s apparent as we see how the Internet has provided easy access to various different kinds of social interactions.

Social networking sites aside, Indian matrimonial websites have changed drastically over the past decades. Traditional societies might still prefer using marriage brokers and relatives to find suitable matches, while in contrast, the modern generation prefers dating. The Internet has somehow brought both these factors together, giving them a newer, post-modern twist. No longer do we have to worry about spending excess time and money whilst searching for a suitable partner. Also, with the new-age matchmaking services, we have seen a growth in the number of candidates who are opting for arranged marriages. Now, whether your significant other is in the same country or abroad, you can easily connect with them, thanks to the miracles of the Internet; social networking, VOIP, and even live video chats have helped millions of couples get to know one another in a completely hassle-free environment. What’s more, today matrimonial websites offer so many personalized services; personalized matchmaking, preferential matchmaking, elite class services, etc, that one need not even step out of the comforts of his home while searching for the right life partner - not anymore!

Love vs Arranged Marriage - Which is Better?

In a love marriage whilst the two people know each other for a period of time before they get married there is a certain comfort level which comes from 'being in love' and knowing each other. However many a times after marriage the expectations become very different from each other and in some cases it works very well and in others both people feel short changed. They start feeling that things are not the way they were before they got married. Over a period of time they feel that the other has changed and is not the same person anymore. That is not true. Indian marriages are not just marriages of two individuals but also of two  families and people have to deal with the changes maturely.

Arranged marriage does not mean getting married to an absolute stranger, whether the introduction is via family/ friends or thru a matchmaking service. It just means the initial introduction is arranged , and slowly the couple grow to love each other with time . People get to know each other, understand each other and with every passing year the love and care grows. The expectations are not sky high which helps and people are more willing to take a few extra steps to find the right balance in their marriage. Very often the tolerance is more and the inflexibility is less and both give more of each other to discover each other.

In other case of love or arranged shaadi can be beautiful if one works on it, after all both people are gaining not just each other but also a new set of family. Double the love!
